I produce pen, ink and watercolour drawings of landscapes, cityscapes, individual buildings and animals, predominantly in Wales. All of my art draws influence from the local Welsh landscape and context as well as many cultures and art forms. These are all combined to create a style that is unique and contemporary. I find the beauty, detail and patterns of familiar settings and objects, and reinterpret these into my artwork. The pen and ink drawings represent familiar places in unique ways. The landscape and city drawings are built up with often repetitive line work to create an unusual and rich tapestry of patterns. The pictures of specific buildings are reminiscent of historic architectural drawings with a modern and clean twist. The original drawings are turned into digital prints which aim to offer affordable artwork to a wide audience. Both the drawings and prints are extremely detailed and intricate and aim to capture the spirit of a place.
The examples of pen and ink drawings on this page are mostly unique commissions. All available prints are on the 'Shop' page. Do get in touch if you'd like to discuss anything further.

BESPOKE COMMISSIONS
" Katherine has been a pleasure to work with from start to finish. I knew I wanted something special to give to my husband on our wedding day. We both love Katherine's style; he had actually bought me one of her prints as my Christmas present, after I had already commissioned his drawing! It was important for me to get particular landmarks and objects in the painting and her communication was fantastic throughout which allowed me to have this input. This has been a very special process. "

" I wanted a very special present to celebrate our daughter's graduation and to remind her of her time at university. Katherine designed a lovely drawing which captures a very personal perspective of Cambridge - just what I wanted and our daughter was delighted. "

"Having had to cancel our usual 'family' holiday in Devon twice since lockdown gave us the idea of Katherine creating something personal and special to us as a Christmas gift for our daughter. We, as a family, are great admirers of Katherine's work and have several of her drawings in our collection, so who better to commission. She is a talented artist and a pleasure to work with. We cannot thank her enough for her interpretation and layout of the places we have loved over the years and we were overwhelmed when we saw the finished artwork and the expression on our daughter's face when she unwrapped it was a pure delight. It is something that will continually give us pleasure."

“Katherine’s work is absolutely stunning and contemporary. My wife and I commissioned a piece of Gorseinon, where we live, and it was lovely to spend an afternoon with Katherine in the town, taking pictures and talking about the history and significance of various places. It now hangs beautifully in our home and has become quite the talking point. The detail is stunning and the piece looks great. Katherine is a lovely person and it was a joy to work with her! We highly recommend her work.”

" I have worked with Katherine on two commissions that includes Port Talbot Steelworks and the Animal Wall next to Cardiff Castle. On both occasions I found her to be accommodating and constructively creative in the collaboration process that has produced final images that have exceeded my expectations. As an artist Katherine has her own unique style that draws on her architectural background to produce mini works of art that I never get tired of looking at. "

" Having seen your work, I knew I was going to like ‘Jackson’s Bay’ when I asked you to do a picture of it. When I first saw it I was blown away!! I have loved Jackson’s since I was a child and I have taken my children and more recently my grandchildren there over the years. Obviously, it has many happy memories for me and somehow you managed to capture all of that. It gives me pleasure constantly and I am very happy I asked you to create it. "

" Sometime later, I asked you to do ‘Eglwysilan’ as a surprise for my husband’s 70th birthday. Our picture is entitled, ‘John’s Long Walk, Eglwysilan’, and you managed to capture the rugged beauty of the valley. He is a man of few words, but was delighted with his gift and can occasionally be found quietly gazing at it. "

ANIMALS AND BIRDS
I have always had a fascination for drawing animals. This has been combined with my love of detail design and interesting patterns. The animal and bird drawings I produce are made up of tiny and intricate line work, exploring the elements of the animal just using patterns.
There are three different sets which include the winter animals: polar bear, reindeer, robin, emperor penguin and great grey owl. The garden birds series has: long tailed tit, blue tit, goldfinch, house sparrow and chaffinch. The insect series has a: dragonfly, peacock butterfly, bee, greenshield bug and ladybird. In addition, there is a greyhound, puffin and whale!
