DRAWINGS : COMMERCIAL COMMISSIONS

Picture
Drawing on 11 years of architecture experience, my pen and ink commissions are built up of repetitive line work that create an unusual and rich tapestry of patterns. These original drawings are a piece of art in themselves, but they can also be turned into affordable digital prints for your gift shop or clients.

Over the years, I’ve drawn landscapes, buildings and wildlife for organisations including Tower Bridge, The National Trust, National Museum of Wales and Cardiff University.  You can see some examples below. Find out more about my process here.

“Katherine’s superb, high quality drawing of Dyffryn House perfectly captures the very essence of Dyffryn and its Grade II listed mansion house. It brings to life a family home that was once at the heart of a thriving estate and community. We are proud to showcase Katherine’s stunning collection in our gift shop.”

Tower Bridge commissioned me to draw a large drawing focusing on the overall bridge, plus four architectural details zooming right in on some of the smaller, often overlooked, features. These included the top of the famous towers, the beautiful windows, the boiler which powers the opening of the bridge and one of the gargoyles that projects from the smaller towers.

I produced a series of prints which are available here as well as a special limited edition print available exclusively from Tower Bridge. It was an absolute pleasure to draw such an iconic British landmark.

"Working on our commission with Katherine was a pleasure. She was very clear about timescales, options, and prices at the outset. Throughout the process kept us informed and involved with regular updates on progress.
We were delighted with the finished drawings, and especially the option to hone in on different features of the architecture. This helped us to show the details that give the building its character but which are often overshadowed by its ubiquity."

This commission focused on five drawings: the main building, plus four architectural details. The final pieces show a nice juxtaposition between the overall museum and the intricate details within it. These drawings were produced as a set, but can be bought individually, or as a set of five cards.

"We saw in Katherine’s drawings a warmth, texture and intricacy that we felt would translate well to the context of this commission. Katherine fully grasped the brief and the complexities of working at the scale required for large clinical and public areas. She ensured that her work was site specific by referencing local landscapes and the subtle pops of colour that draw the eye but don’t overwhelm the artwork’s serenity.

The artworks have been very warmly received and we would be more than happy to work with Katherine again."

Elmore Court, Gloucestershire

Together with Elmore Court, I created two beautifully detailed maps that they will give to guests wishing to explore their new rewilded landscape. Committed to sustainability, the team behind the venue are on an exciting adventure to rewild parts of their estate, a hugely important step in restoring biodiversity, wildlife and carbon capture, by letting nature do its thing.

"Working with Katherine was a pleasure. She is passionate about her work and patient, ensuring that she understood our desired outcomes. We were delighted by the drawings and how they translated the landscape onto paper."

I worked with Cardiff University to create a drawing of their main building. These prints are given every year as gifts to honorary fellows and foreign delegates. They also make a popular retirement and alumni gift.
