Old Joe, Birmingham Print
Modern “Old Joe”, University of Birmingham Clock Tower Print
My detailed pen and ink drawing captures the striking details of the University of Birmingham’s iconic red brick clock tower. “Old Joe” is the world’s tallest freestanding clock tower and an integral part of the Edgbaston skyline.
Inspired by my architectural background, I’ve used layers of intricate pattern and texture to bring the imposing landmark and its surrounding buildings to life. The rusty hues of the watercolour paint gives a wonderful warmth to this monochrome print.
This drawing was originally commissioned as an anniversary gift for a couple who met at Birmingham University as students in 1972 - over 50 years ago!
Perfect as a graduation, alumni or retirement gift, this hand-drawn illustration is a unique way to remind a loved one of their treasured university days. Perhaps you’ve just moved out of Birmingham and want a keepsake of your time there?

Meticulously created using pen, ink and watercolour on FSC certified, archival quality paper, this detailed print comes mounted, and wrapped in eco-friendly recycled tissue. Finding the beauty in small details is a real love of mine, and I enjoy hand-drawing every tiny, individual line, curve and dot of the original illustrations, on my traditional architect’s drawing board.
Each print is printed in my Cardiff-based studio, and then mounted and packaged by hand to ensure a quality finish. Printing to order means less waste and therefore less impact on the environment - something that is extremely important to me.
